The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office paid $400,000 to settle a federal lawsuit for the 2014 alleged beating of an inmate, according to a settlement agreement obtained by KATC Investigates.
It was Dec. 6, 2012, and Marcus Robicheaux, like the other inmates at the Iberia Parish Jail, was standing with his hands on his head and his nose pressed against the wall of the recreation yard as correctional officers ran a contraband sweep.

NEW IBERIA — Criminal charges were never filed in the 2009 death of Iberia Parish inmate Michael Jones, but Sheriff Louis Ackal is now asking the FBI to investigate the case after a judge ruled excessive force led to Jones’ death.
