Alcohol suspected in head-on collision with 18-wheeler in Jeffson Davis Parish

A Lake Charles man is in jail after allegedly causing a three-vehicle crash involving two 18-wheelers on Interstate 10.

State Troopers say on Wednesday, Sept. 23 they responded to a three-vehicle crash on Interstate Highway 10 approximately 2 miles west of Welsh in Jefferson Davis Parish around 7:44 p.m.

Officials report a 2013 Ford pickup, driven by 33-year-old William Shockley Hains of Lake Charles, made contact with an 18-wheeler, lost control of the pickup, crossed the median, and struck another 18-wheeler head-on.

Hains was transported from the scene with minor injuries.

Impairment is suspected to be a factor in the crash. Hains refused to voluntarily provide a toxicology sample, and a “no refusal” warrant was obtained. A blood was drawn from Hains and will be submitted for analysis.

Hains was charged with DWI (fourth offense) as well as careless operation and was booked into the Jefferson Davis Parish Jail.

No one else was injured.
